Isn’t the entire premise of social networking the networking piece? And if you remove an identity, who is there to network with? I understand there are some benefits to anonymity, but then can you call it a social network?
2) Metzger, Flanagin, and Zwarun state that “although many students use teh internet for their schoolwork, they often do so without formal help or training.” While I will not agree or disagree with this statement, I cannot help but consider the implications. I will admit, I typically start with the internet when beginning a research process. However, I wonder what the novice student would do—and I wonder more, if, in this day and age, there is such a thing as a “novice” user. I wonder, for example, how a student judges credibility…how they consider plagiarism, copyright and other legal ramifications. since student behavior is shifting to a different paradigm of information literacy, how do we prepare for that?
